Drake Ft. Trey Songz - Successful

In his 5th studio album, and admittedly, the first one I’ve listened to front to back, Fabolous has returned with a vengeance. He begins the album by letting everyone know he is through being underrated and would like credit for his work, and provides a very strong argument. He continues through the album in signature fashion, with Brooklyn-quality punch line driven and countless quotable lyrics. Loso’s Way is mainly a collection of bass heavy beats that, when combined with his braggadocio flow and a good set of speakers, makes for a collection of tracks that are perfect for almost any scenario.

One issue I found with the album is that Fabolous tries to incorporate songs which would appeal to a large variety of fans, and when looking at the project as a whole, makes it look patchy. I feel like an album named after a 90’s Crime Drama shouldn’t be jumping so dramatically between gritty New York Gangsta rap, a radio-friendly “Throw It in the Bag”, and a Ne-Yo or Trey Songz love song. On that note, Loso’s Way being a 16 track album, Fabolous manages to squeeze 13 featured artists into the project. While most of them are only on choruses, it still raises the question of how much space on Loso’s way was put aside for Loso himself.

Aside from the array of heavier tracks Fabolous has a handful of tracks that provide a more laid-back mellow feel. Again, these songs are done to a level of quality one would come to expect from Fab, and offer up a change of pace to appeal to his female fans.

Despite the slowed down tempo, Fabolous continues to provide the punch line driven braggadocious wordplay that he has not only polished, but arguably pioneered. And with the change in attitude towards his respect in the game, hopefully this marks a turning point for the better for his career.
